Discovering Port Richey

The city of Port Richey is located in Pasco County, Florida, near the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. The city’s most recent census results show that approximately 3,400 people call Port Richey, Florida home. The close proximity to a major metropolitan area, as well as the town’s location directly on the coast, ensures that Port Richey is a beautiful and diverse city.

The city was founded by Captain Aaron M. Richey and was incorporated in 1925, though it was a popular area for fishermen and trappers long before that. There is a great deal of Native American history in the area, as well as burial grounds for two separate Native American tribes.

The major industry in Port Richey is tourism, because of the unspoiled coast and the picturesque fishing village at its heart. There are a host of Port Richey hotels and inns, as well as available lodging in the immediate surrounding area. Travelers will enjoy the relaxation offered in Port Richey and the excitement available in nearby Tampa.

The residents of Port Richey strive to keep the city as quaint as possible. Port Richey restaurants are, for the most part, locally owned and offer casual dining on the waterfront. There are several restaurants in the surrounding area that hug the coast, and many of them welcome boat arrivals. The shops in the area are generally small, locally owned boutiques that cater to many different interests.

Should you decide to make the area your new home, there are several Port Richey real estate agents that can make the process as smooth as possible. The home styles are varied, so there is something available for every taste and every walk of life. From private homes in quiet neighborhoods to condominiums with sweeping views of the water, every residence captures the charm of Port Richey, Florida.
